Orsolon Racing Team Had an Amazing Rotax Nationals in Salt Lake City

July 21, 2014

The team from Miami, Florida came all complete and prepared for the Rotax Nationals in Salt Lake City, Utah. Coming from a win with Enzo Fittipaldi and best lap with Riley Dickinson at the Rotax Shoot Out also in Salt Lake, the team was looking forward to the Nationals.

The team was composed of Riley Dickinson from San Antonio,TX and Enzo Fittipaldi from Charllote,NC in Mini Max, Sebastian Sierra and Marcus Peterson both from Miami, in the Jr class. Dan Roeper from New York, NY in the Senior Class and Diego Pelosi from San Diego, CA in the Master Class.

The whole team had a long week of testing from Tuesday to Thursday being able to spend a lot of time in data analyzing, driving, chassis and engine setups. Unfortunately Diego Pelosi’s dad had passed away so he could only come on Friday, straight to qualifying.

On Friday qualifying, both mini drivers managed to be on the top 10, with Riley Dickinson 7th and Enzo Fittipaldi 9th. Dan Roeper in Sr also with an strong qualifying session ended up 6th, and Diego Pelosi still learning the track, got 13th in Masters. Sebastian Sierra lost both his best laps due to a penalty and qualified 23th. Marcus ended up in 44th.

Orsolon Racing Mini drivers had an amazing pace on all 3 heats with Riley Dickinson finishing 3rd on the first one, leading most laps of the second finishing 3rd, and was running third on the last heat until he got hit on the last lap and ended up finishing 9th. Enzo Fittipaldi managed to be on the top 5 all three heats with a 5th, 4th, and 4th in the last one. Dan Roeper in Senior had three solid top 10 finishes in all three heats getting 10th, 9th, and 8th. Diego Pelosi in Masters was still getting used to the track and doing some testing even on the heat races, managed to be in the top 8 all the races while getting better and better with an 8th, 6th, and 4th. The Junior drivers did not have the same luck. Sebastian Sierra, even with a good pace got involved in incidents in all three heats, ending up out of the top 10. It was the same with Marcus Peterson.

On the prefinal all Orsolon Racing drivers had a strong pace with Enzo Fittipaldi 5th and Riley Dickinson 6h in Minimax. Dan Roeper 6th in Seniors and Diego Pelosi 5th in Master due to a time penalty at the start. Sebastian Sierra with a nice recuperation raced from 33rd all the way to 15th, then got involved in a messy crash, ending up 25th.

The Rotax Nationals had such a high level competition with over 40 karts per class. The Orsolon Racing team managed to have 4 drivers out of 6 going to the final in the top 6. That was an amazing result after such hard effort from all.

The Mini Max class had a crazy final race with a moment of rain midway through. With an amazing fighting battle, Enzo Fittipaldi managed to finish 5th. Riley Dickinson ended up 11th with the best lap of the race.

Diego Pelosi in Master, started 5th, managed to jump to 3rd on the start and quickly passed for 2nd on the first lap. He had an impressive week after missing all practice sessions, going straight to qualifying without even knowing the track. Unfortunately all top 3 went three wide and got together, taking each other out of the race. It was a shame since it was a concrete title opportunity.

Dan Roeper had a good start, fought for the top 4 all race long but they all got together with three laps to go. Dan with a smart move, passed for 2nd in the last lap and held it until the checkered flag, guaranteeing his ticket to the World Finals in Spain. In the Jr class Sebastian Sierra had a nice recuperation race coming from 25th, managed to finish 13th. Marcus Peterson had a solid race and ended up 25th.

The team from Miami closed the week with amazing results, having at least four drivers in the top 5 all week long. The next big event for the team will be the Rotax Pan Am in Mooresville, NC in October.
